The project’s construction generated employment opportunities for local contractors and suppliers while operation and maintenance of the turbines creates additional long term employment opportunities for skilled professionals
By using renewable energy, greenhouse gas emissions are avoided, electricity from fossil fuel power stations is displaced and waste by-products that need to be disposed of are not generated
The project also helps reduce China’s reliance on imported fossil fuels, contributing to an increase in China’s energy security
It also helps improve local air quality by displacing electricity generation that emits SO2 and NOx
China’s rapid economic growth in recent years has caused a serious shortage of electricity resulting in blackouts and brownouts throughout the country. These power outages reduce economic activity and negatively affects daily life
The project helps improve the grid’s supply thereby contributing to steady and reliable economic growth in the region
The Project is located in an area with sparse vegetation. Waste water generated during the construction was treated and reused on the construction site or as fertilizer for on-site greening. The project’s site is not a main habitat or migration route for migratory birds
During the project’s development, stakeholder consultation was undertaken through meetings and a questionnaire and the majority of respondents were supportive of the project. Issued raised included the impacts on roads and grassed areas, noise and the area of land used. These issues were addressed in the EIA of the project
The verification report identified that communication with local stakeholders is carried out at periodic intervals and that no negative comments have been received about the project
