Description

Project Description

The project groups 14 wind farms into a single project with a total capacity of 358.8 MW

Each wind turbine is 2.3 MW and each wind farm has been 8-13 wind turbines

It delivers annually over 1,529 GWh of renewable energy to the Brazilian National Interconnected System which has an emission factor of 0.4418 tCO2e/ MWh

Sustainability Beyond Carbon

The project generates extra income for the landowners while they continue using the area for other activities, increasing and diversifying the land’s productivity

It stimulates the regional economy by increasing tax revenues for the local government and creating direct and indirect job opportunities for local workers and service suppliers

This economic stimulus improves the capital stock in the region allowing investment in infrastructure, productive capacity and the local population’s basic needs like education

It leads to the improvement of the local infrastructure such as roads and the electricity transmission system

By using equipment with domestic content, it helps Brazil’s technology development and contributes to increased availability of wind generation technology reducing maintenance costs and risks of the technology in the country

Skilled operators and maintenance staff are employed by the project which stimulates development of a proficient tertiary sector in the region, creating opportunities for education, professionalisation and employment

It diversifies electricity supplies, complementing existing run-of-river hydroelectric generation by partially compensating for its lack of hydropower storage capacity, helping minimise installation of thermal fossil fuel generators while providing improved energy security
