Description

VCS727 | Wind, China is a renewables (electricity) Verified Carbon Standard project providing access to electricity and its benefits.

Project Description: VCS727 | Wind, China

This 100.5 MW wind farm (67 x 1.5 MW) supplies over 241 GWh annually to the North China Power Grid.

This grid is mainly fossil fuel based power plants so it has an emission factor of 1.0549 tCO2e/ MWh.

It is located south of the Inner Mongolia plateau with an altitude of 1450-1680 metres.

Sustainability Beyond Carbon

There is more to offsets than just carbon.

Each VCS carbon credit is a tonne of verified climate benefit, no matter the type of project.

This carbon offset project provides multiple sustainability co-benefits beyond just carbon and helps link your climate response to improved sustainability.

The project’s construction generated employment opportunities for local contractors and suppliers.

The operation and maintenance of the turbines creates additional long term employment opportunities for skilled professionals.

Renewable electricity avoids greenhouse gas emissions and doesn’t generate large amounts of waste e.g. fly ash.

The project reduces China’s reliance on imported fossil fuels which helps increase its energy security.

Not releasing pollutants (SO2, NOx and particulates) improves local air quality as does displacing grid electricity.

The project helps improve the grid’s supply helping steady and reliable economic growth in the region.

By reducing the energy supply/ demand gap, there are less blackouts and brownouts impacting economic activity and daily life.

The surrounding area has sparse vegetation and it is not a main habitat or migration route for migratory birds.

Project undertakes stakeholder consultation and periodic communication, as identified in the verification report.
