Project Description: VCS1953 | REDD+, Brazil
The project promotes forest conservation and recovery, focused mainly on protecting forest and avoiding deforestation drivers.
It aims to prove the economic feasibility of preserving forest in heavily degraded regions where clearing forest is socially acceptable.
The project area is 53,528 ha of forest in a critical region of the eastern Amazon biome.
Prior to the project, the land was degraded forest.
The surrounding forest areas are under threat with illegal loggers commonly operating in and around the project area.
Agriculture, mining and the timber industry are the major drivers for deforestation of native forest lands in the region.
Sustainability Beyond Carbon

The creation of animal corridors, maintaining forest cover and reducing habitat fragmentation help threatened species conservation.
