Description

VCS1812 | Wind, Brazil is a renewables (electricity) Verified Carbon Standard project providing access to electricity and its benefits.

Project Description: VCS1812 | Wind, Brazil

The project groups 14 wind farms into a single project with a total capacity of 358.8 MW.

Each wind turbine is 2.3 MW and each wind farm has been 8-13 wind turbines.

The project delivers over 1,529 GWh each year to the Brazilian National Interconnected System.

It supplies renewable electricity to a grid that has an emission factor of 0.4418 tCO2e/ MWh.

Sustainability Beyond Carbon

There is more to offsets than just carbon.

Each VCS carbon credit is a tonne of verified climate benefit, no matter the type of project.

This carbon offset project provides multiple sustainability co-benefits beyond just carbon and helps link your climate response to improved sustainability.

The project has created direct and indirect job opportunities for local workers and service suppliers.

It generates the landowners’ extra income and they can continue using the area for other activities.

The regional economy is stimulated which helps increase local government tax revenues.

This economic stimulus allows investment in infrastructure, productive capacity and basic needs like education.

It leads to the improvement of the local infrastructure such as roads and the electricity transmission system.

By using equipment with domestic content, it helps Brazil’s technology development.

This contributes to reducing maintenance costs and lowers risks of the technology in the country.

The need for skilled operators and maintenance staff is stimulating a proficient tertiary sector in the region.

This is creating greater opportunities for education, professionalisation and employment.

It diversifies electricity supplies and complements existing run-of-river hydroelectric generation.

It helps minimise the installation of fossil fuel generators while providing improved energy security.
