Key Features of the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)
VCS accredited carbon offset projects meet accepted quality standards and are:
- independently verified;
- uniquely numbered; and
- transparently listed in a central database.
VCS carbon offset projects create Verified Carbon Units (VCUs).
Each VCU:
- has a unique serial number;
- is listed in the Verra Registry; and
- is able to be tracked from issuance to retirement.
This chain of custody and the Standard ensures that all VCUs are:
- real;
- additional;
- permanent;
- independently verified;
- unique; and
- traceable.

All the projects sold by Beyond Neutral are accredited under either VCS or Gold Standard , so the offset you buy has been created by a project:
- that follows a specific methodology;
- has been verified as having occurred by one of that Standard’s third party verification bodies; and
- is tracked in that Standard’s Registry using a unique serial number from issuance until retirement on your behalf.
